Collins Chidera Joseph OKOH

President

Collins Chidera Joseph OKOH is a final year LLB student and a scholar from Enugu State, Nigeria. He is passionate about meaningful youth empowerment, access to quality education, and responsive leadership.

Okoh is the first international Non-East African student to ever chair the Student Council and the second Chair to be elected from the Strathmore Law School (SLS). In July 2018, Okoh became the first Nigerian Strathmore University Scholar. He subsequently made several trips to Nigeria with the Financial Aid department to recruit and award other outstanding students and scholars.

In his 3rd year at Strathmore, Okoh served the World Bank Group and the African Bank for Reconstruction and Development (ABRD) as a Legal Researcher for their joint project—African Mining Legislation Atlas (AMLA). Furthermore, he spent three years in the Strathmore Law Review (SLR) and advanced through the ranks to become the Editor-in-Chief of the Seventh Volume in 2021 2022. Remarkably, for the first time, his SLR Board raised over $3,250 through collaboration with law firms to cater to the SLR’s financial needs. Similarly, he was appointed the Issue-Editor of the Journal of Intellectual Property and Information Technology law (JIPIT), 2021/2022 Volume. His first journal paper, “Asking for Young Offenders: What is the Fate of Restorative Justice within Nigeria’s Discretionary Diversion Policy?”, demonstrates his passion for high-caliber research.

Through his “Build A Future Campaign”; project, which aids bright students to obtain admission and scholarship opportunities, Okoh aspires to transform the world and empower underprivileged youth and fellow dreamers. He is mostly associated with the
slogan #IamStrathmore.

Samuel Mue

Vice President

Samuel Mue is an upcoming vibrant International Development consultant and SDG Advocate currently in his final year studying International Studies. He has been privileged to serve as the Vice President of the 13th Student Council, which has been an enriching experience that allowed him to grow, network, and be challenged to be a better leader. He has been closely working to grow the clubs and societies in Strathmore University in a bid to enrich the Stratizen Experience.

Apart from serving in the council, Samuel serves in the National Secretariat of Kenya Model United Nations as the Secretary-General, the SDG Coordinator for the Strathmore SDG Students Hub SDSN-Youth. and is the Campus Director, Millennium Fellowship Class of 2022. His life quote is “Rise Above” which has motivated him to keep pushing and challenge himself to always do better in every aspect of life.

Clara Owuor

Public Relations Representative

My name is Clara Owuor, I am a female Kenyan Finance and Economics what you would call an expert. I studied Strathmore Institute of Mathematical Sciences (SIMS). I joined the student council for the purpose of developing my capabilities in leadership, contributing, and learning from Strathmore University.

I am interested in economically empowering the women and children of Developing and Least Developed Countries through the education of technical financial skills; as a means of ultimately uplifting their communities. I have a record of accomplishments and exemplary performance in leadership, digital media writing, research and proposal writing, and financial risk management. Driven by the firm belief that women are the indispensable cornerstone of advancement and development globally; achieved through financial literacy and consequential financial freedom through self-application, learning, and teaching.

As a long-term advocate of the needs, welfare, and general human rights of all people I will delve into humanitarian work to build secure, productive, and justice-led communities. The skills I have learned through my position in the student council remain my creativity and innovation, hard work, and ability to receive instruction for the betterment of everyone.

Maria Gitau

Female Academic Representative

Maria Gitau is a final year student pursuing a BSc. in Informatics and Computer Science at Strathmore University. She also serves as an Academic Executive to the Strathmore Student Council, a role that involves representing the student body on matters related to their academic experience at the University. In addition to this, she also serves as the chair of the Strathmore University IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) Students’ Society. This is an on-campus community that aims at inspiring, informing, and influencing the student community to engineer a better world. One of her recently acclaimed innovations was recognized during Africa’s first Blockchain Gender Hackathon where her team proposed a female-centered, blockchain savings and investment platform, aptly dubbed Femcent.

Aside from this, she has participated in a variety of community outreach projects. In February this year, she embarked on a journey to Napatet Village, Turkana County where she conducted revision classes for standard eight pupils at St. Michael’s Primary School. Upon sitting for their national examinations in March, the school recorded a marked improvement in the student’s performance of an overall average upwards of 20% compared to the previous year.

Maria looks forward to combining her passion for technology and innovation, her experience in various leadership roles, and overall lessons learned both within and outside of the classroom when she transitions into the tech industry.

Simon Joseph Njoroge Bakibinga

Male Academic Representative

Simon Joseph Njoroge Bakibinga is the Male Academic Executive of the Strathmore 13th Student Council pursuing a BBS degree in Actuarial Science. He is 21 years old and a part-qualified actuary as recognized by the internationally acknowledged IFOA. Moreover, he interns at the Institute of Family Studies and Ethics, based in the Research and Education Promotion Departments, and is a Millenium Fellow Class of ’22.

Prior to his embarkment on this tertiary-learning journey, he studied at Strathmore High School where they emerged as the top school in the nation, a feat that had not been accomplished in 17 years. In this institution, he honed the pillars of leadership, perseverance, problem-solving, and most importantly, humility which he asserts constitute the wholesomeness of an individual.

In his free time, he swims, takes photos, gyms, and travels. In addition, he is passionate about music. He started off his musical expedition on the piano after which he dabbled in the drums and eventually settled on vocal performance. Competition-wise, he has represented his respective institutions in swimming and song and has been graciously awarded numerous accolades.

Having graduated from Strathmore University, he wishes to practice consultancy where he believes he will be able to make the largest impact through assessing and helping to improve business performance, more so with those whose goals and ideals align with his.

Philip Karoki Gathuri

Male Sports Representative

Philip Karoki Gathuri is a 4th-year BCOM marketing major student with unmatched zeal and hunger to learn from, engage with, and partner with like-minded individuals in all spheres of life and especially marketing. Philip also serves as the 13th student council male sports representative where without a doubt he has steered the sporting agenda in the right direction.

His friendly and warm personality fosters the creation of strong and meaningful relationships as he strongly advocates for teamwork, discipline, growth, and positivity. He one day hopes that these attributes will undoubtedly steer him up the ladder in the marketing world. Philip or as many people refer to him as ‘Phil’ enjoys meaningful conversations on various subject matters such as Spirituality, finances, family, friends, relationships, and not forgetting, football. Philip loves football. If not in class nor attending to matters of the council, then Phil is definitely in the soccer pitch practicing hard together with his mates of Strathmore F.C. His hard work and hunger to win have earned him the nickname, ‘Roro’ coined from the hard work shown by his footballing icon, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Phil also enjoys traveling, socializing with friends, a riveting Netflix series, good music mixes of all genres, and nice, quiet, walks or runs at Karura Forest.
